The National Metrology Centre of Latvia (hereinafter SIA LNMC) is state capital company. State shareholder is the Ministry of Economics. SIA LNMC is registered in the Commercial Register, reg. no. 40003435328.

SIA LNMC was formed on the basis of the national Latvian metrology. The company was established and commenced its activities as a national metrology organization of Latvia having state financing in order to maintain standards basis of measuring instruments within the framework of the National Standardization and Metrology Centre of Latvia. Non-profit organization VSIA Latvian National Metrology Centre was established on 17 February 1999 taking over rights, obligations and liabilities of the National Standardization and Metrology Centre of Latvia and implementing the state policy in metrology sphere.

In 2004 when the new Commercial Law became effective the company was reorganized and state capital company SIA Latvian National Metrology Centre was established.

In 2006 the activity of maintenance of standards basis was separated and SIA LNMC continued its activities as a commercial entity in order to gain profit from its operating activities and by now it is a company established by professionals with more than 20 to 35 years experience in provision of metrological services, ensuring stable performance, high quality and guarantees.

The key lines of business of the company are provision of metrological services. The activities of SIA LNMC are:

• Verifying the measuring instruments under state metrological control;
• Calibrating the measuring instruments;
• Product certification;
• Testing electrical devices.

It must be noted that such activities as testing and certification were extended and implemented gradually, observing and assessing the opportunities of the company. The certification activity of the company is the assessment of product compliance in accordance with:

1. Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of 30 May 2000 No 187 “Electrical safety instructions of devices” and Directive 2006/95/EC.
2. Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of 20 July 2007 No 483 “Electromagnetic compatibility of electrical appliances” and Directive 2004/108/EC (89/336/EEC).

 
In order to observe and ensure the legal operations, the company has been accredited by the Accreditation centre of SIA Centre of Standardization, Accreditation and Metrology, obtaining an accreditation in compliance with the requirements of standards LVS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2000 and LVS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2000.

The company has several independent branches in the regions of Latvia, i.e., in Liepāja, Daugavpils, as well as testing centres in Talsi and Valmiera. In these branches and centres verification and calibration services are provided; branches and testing centres have been evaluated and received the assessment of the Accreditation centre of SIA Centre of Standardization, Accreditation and Metrology in accordance with the requirements of standards. The number of staff is 80.

The company has signed service agreements with the largest Latvian companies requiring metrological services. SIA LNMC cooperates with such companies as AS Conexus, AS Latvenergo, SIA Circle K Latvia, SIA Neste Latvia etc.
